what is eating my tulips after they bloom?

by Laurie Benedict
(Sylvan Beach, NY)

Right after my tulips bloomed something ate the flowers, not the leaves. It looked as if they were cut straight across. I'm not the only one. It happened to my mom's flowers too. Now, whatever it is, has gone after her iris's as well. What could it possibly be? I don't know if it is a rabbit, skunk, or some type of worm or bug? What can we do to stop it?

Doug says that he's not there so he has no idea. But if he were a betting man, he'd go with squirrels or rabbits or deer or any other kind of eating rodent. It isn't bugs.

What can you do to stop it - depends on what it is. :-)

Fencing, noxious sprays etc are all being tried by different gardeners to control the different pests but it's impossible for me to tell you what to use if we don't know what's causing the problem. :-)

Good luck -
