too late to plant refrigerated bare bulbs?
I've had great success forcing hyacinths. I always pot them in soil before I refrigerate them, and I give them a little water once a week for 12 weeks before taking them from the fridge. My cousin, not knowing any better, refrigerated bare hyacinth bulbs for 12 weeks and asked me if now they'll bloom when she pots them. I was stumped. My guess is that they're dead from having no soil and no water for 12 weeks. Should I advise her to pot them up now and see if anything happens, or do you suppose they're dead?
Doug says he doesn't know if they're dead or alive. They "probably" haven't developed buds but stranger things have happened (it depends on the humidity levels).
Given a choice of planting or tossing - I'd plant. They really won't bloom if you toss them - :-) But they might bloom or live if you plant them.
Just make sure the bulbs are firm - not soft. Soft equals rotting.
