Naked ladies
by: Samantha

Yeah I had no idea what this flower was called either. This flower popped out just about a week and a half ago maybe, but the ones here are in the shade. So I guess they can survive pretty much anywhere. But about everyone has them from Hamilton, Ohio to Cincinnati, Ohio you see them everywhere. They are very pretty though.

Naked Ladies absolutely are winter hardy where I live - Zone 4-5 in the United States.
When I moved into my present house, they were the biggest surprise that spring. The owner for the previous 5 years was not a gardener at all. The beds were so overgrown that a single spot produced 2 5-gallon buckets of bulbs, most the size of baseballs and larger.

I planted this bulb and forgot I planted it. And then realized that...You get strap like leaves in the spring and this dies back and in the end of summer/early fall you get these magnificent flowers that smell great.

I've discovered that the lily actually is a 'Surprise Lily' or Naked Lady. I had no idea when I picked the title. I just knew that one day the lily surprised me with the flowers. Liz

Pink Magic Lilies
by: Mary

Looks like Pink Magic Lilies, lycoris squamigera. They have foliage only in early summer and then it disappears until the flowers shoot up in August. They are grown from bulb and are not winter hardy.

I've heard them called Ascension Lillies, or Naked Ladies (no leaves).
