storing and moving lilies
by Bunny
(Atlanta)
I will be moving to Chapel Hill NC from the Atlanta area in OCTOBER. I have hundreds of perennials asnd bulbs to take with me. For my daffodils I am digging them up now, drying them and storing them in open bags with saw dust to keep them dry. Is that the same for the Asiatic lillies. They should be blooming in June and I plan to dig them after foliage browns. Any other questions. Since I cannot wait to dig everything the week before I move zI have to dig things now before it gets too hot to work outside. Suggestions? Many thanks
Doug says that digging after the foliage browns off or first thing in the spring (too late in May) will be fine for the lilies. Cool, dry storage should do it until you can replant in the fall. The sawdust is an ok idea to help reduce moisture but *don't* get that wet or damp or you'll rot the bulbs.
Lotsa work ahead! :-)
