spring bulbs are sprouting

I have recently planted anemone bulbs but they are starting to sprout slready! What do I do? What did I do wrong?

Doug has written about this extensively - if you plant your bulbs too early, they'll tend to sprout. And there's nothing you can do about it.

You don't say where you are but the bottom line is that you planted too early and the bulbs have decided to grow. The only thing that will slow them down is cold weather.

And yes, if they start producing flowers, those flowers will likely die. And no, they won't produce another crop of flowers next spring if they produce them this fall.

And maybe the bulbs will live through the winter even though they've spent their energy on producing new foliage this fall - if they were large enough bulbs with good energy levels, they'll live to regrow foliage next spring.

Hope that answers the main questions - sorry about your bulbs. It's disappointing I know.

not a darn thing

There's not a darn thing you can do. Let the bulb do it's thing - it's going to do it anyway. :-) Relax and go with the flow. Sorry but that's the honest gardening advice - naught to be done when plants decide to do what they want to do - not what we want them to do.

Anemone Bulb Anamoly!

I planted my anemone bulbs last fall. They bloomed nicely this past spring. At the end of August the foliage began sprouting again. They are pretty full as far as foliage, but there have not been any blooms. What should I do?
