Splitting the lilies for novices (daylilies)

Can I split my large clump of daylilies any time, or must I wait for a specific window of time to divide/replant them?

Doug says - first of all, daylilies aren't really lilies - they're perennials called Hemerocallis. Second, they divide best in early spring or mid-fall. See propagation articles on dividing perennials right here
