short bloom stem
Doug says you don't say where you live but I'm betting in a warm climate. This is really typical of hyacinths that don't get enough winter chilling. The bulb is forced into growth by rising soil temperatures, the bulb hasn't rested long enough and when it emerges, the high heat tends to shorten the stem.
So - my guess is that it's going to be an ongoing event unless you have a particularly long and cold winter.
