Planting bulbs or grown plant?

When and what is best to plant the daffodil bulb or full grown plant at this time of the season? I am planting them in soil 10- 15 blocks from the ocean ,so the soil may be a little sandy. Can I plant them in the summer ? Or is it best to wait until fall? What specific bulbs or plants do you recommend?

Doug says that it is far better to plant bulbs in the late fall than any other time. And don't bother with started plants, the leaves will all die back in a short time now and the bulbs will sit there till next spring. Cheaper and better to plant daffodil bulbs in the fall.

What specific bulbs do I recommend? All. Pick 'em by the look of the flower. Personally I love the big blowsy yellow fragrant ones but that's only my .02. :-)
