My hyacinth won't bloom

by Pamela
(Ozark, MO)

I have several clusters of hyacinth that I transplanted from an old farm house. They bloomed every year there. We're only across the street, so the weather isn't different. I have some in nearly all day sun and others get afternoon sun. They all have lots of leaves, but it's been 3 years no and none have bloomed. What can I do?

Doug says here's an article on why bulbs don't bloom.

And sadly he notes that moving just across the street is no different than moving a hundred miles. Soil and growing conditions can change within gardens - across the street is a different garden condition even if the overall weather hasn't changed. That soil is making the difference as is the water-holding capacity of the soil etc. I'm not sure what the difference is but there is one - and that's your gardening challenge to figure out.

Sorry to not be much help here - too far away over the Net doesn't cut it with very localized problems.
