heirloom tiger Lily Zone 10

Can you tell me specifically the reason Tiger Lilies are hardy in Zone 8, but not in Zone 10? Could this be overcome by growing them in potting mix rather than garden soil? Or perhaps proving them morning sun, but not afternoon sun? Where could I obtain Heirloom Tiger Lilies rather than the hybrids?

Doug says that the specific reason is that the lily requires a dormancy period - a resting period - with cooler temperatures than you get in Zone 10. So the bottom line is that unless you import several months of cold weather, you can't grow this plant no matter what variety you use. Sorry.
