Growing tulips in water

I purchased tulips growing in water. The tulips sit on a grate about 1 inch above the water. How can I recreate this with new bulbs. Thank you

Doug says that growing tulips indoors in water means supporting the bulb so the base is "just" in the water to start with. Then as the roots expand, you can raise it up a bit so the bottom of the bulb is out of the water but the roots are sitting in the water.

I put some glass marbles in a ceraminc bowl and placed the bulb in the middle. I pushed it down a bit into the marbles and then added water so that it just touched the bottom of the bulb. I put the bowl on a windowsill in the sun. Very easy to change the water. The bulbs I have planted this way have grown and flowered as well.

I have a bamboo and tulip bulb happily cohabitating in a fish bowl. I filled the bottom with rocks, and the tulip bulb sits just on top of the rock with roots in the water. It looks as if it might begin to bloom soon.
I do have a bit of a problem with the bulb growing mold. Not sure what to do about that.

I made a plastic grate from a coffee can lid and cut it to size to fit inside of the glass container.

I tried to do this and found that the water got stinky and murky after about 2 days. Any suggestions?

Doug says change the water daily. Or add a floral preservative/food to the water - this cuts back on algae growth.

I also purchased these tulips in water at Costco. I would like to find where to purchase that plastice grate so I can grow some of my own. Any ideas where to find these?
