Growing Stargazer Lily

Growing the stargazer lily (more properly Lilium ‘Stargazer’) in an oriental lily that has become one of the most popular and well-known plants in this family. 

Bred in 1978 by Leslie Woodriff, a Californian breeder, it is an Oriental hybrid and became well known because the blooms are upward facing.
Flower colors now come in different shades (see below) and while the original was pinkish, gold and white varieties share the same upward facing blooms (easier to see).

Height is 36-inches.
Plant 12-18-inches apart 
Bloom is fragrant and makes a wonderful cut flower
Sunshine - full sun but light shade (very light shade) assuming 6-8 hours of full sunshine a day will grow this bulb.
Hardiness: easily USDA 4
Concerns - the same as all lilies, not edible and poisonous to pets and people if consumed in large enough quantities.

This is one of the most popular lilies because of it’s ease of growth and upward facing flowers.  If you’re a lily fan, this one deserves a place in your garden (always assuming you like the color).
