Force bloom tulips

Is there any way to speed up the cooling period you mention of 14 - 15 weeks at 40 degrees ? Would colder for a shorter period work ? Do they require to be planted in soil while cooling to develop roots?

Doug says sorry - not going to happen in any serious way. A day here or there but you can't bring it down very much. The best solution is to look for forcing bulbs that take shorter cooling periods.

And if the humidity and temperature are right - they don't require soil. Many gardeners report "decent" success with leaving them in the crisper of the frig (not all succeed with this but enough do that it's worth a try)
