Pixies added a touch of white to the tip of every petal!
You've heard it said, "give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, but, if you teach him how to fish he will never go hungry". Well!!! I just showed son Mike a few things and every year there is less and less grass and more and more flowers (and veggies).
This is a picture of one of a stalk full of little beauties.

The first crocus to bloom
by S.J.
(Nepean, ON, Canada)
First crocus: April 7, 2008
It was a big snow year in Ottawa. Once some warmth arrived, the edges of the piles next to the walks and drives melted first, finally revealing the crocus on April 7.

My bulbs were flowering all over the garden already when April 19 storm brought 5'' of snow (last time we had snow in April was in 1972). Some flowers were broken under heavy load of snow, but some came out fine.

This tulip I bought on clearance last Fall and I don't know it's name. I couldn't believe how long it's lasted, almost 3 weeks now and it's still blooming beautifully everyday.
Lilies-of-the valley
by Suzan
(Gardenville, PA)
Shy little pink lilies-of-the valley
These shy little beauties captured me as I captured them!
Doug says - I actually had to look up the botany of this plant - it is indeed a member of the Lily family even though it spreads by rhizomes. You learn something every day. Thanks for the pic and the chance to learn something new.

Yellow irises on a cast iron fence
The title pretty well sums it up .. .
Doug says - he's trying to head off the botanists who are going to point out that the tall Iris are not bulbous but are rhizomes. And that is true but for the purposes of this contest, I'll let both the bulbous and the rhizomes enter. Let's not get too picky here today.

Doug notes that yes, this is a tuber and not a bulb but we're allowing tubers and corms as well in this contest. We're not being strict about it being a "bulb" :-)
