Doug says can you leave daffodil bulbs in the ground year round? I'm not sure why you'd want to dig them up actually (unless you really like hard work or have to put them in the frig to cool them off so they'll form a flower bud). It depends on your climate.
If you get "winter" for 12-14 weeks and things freeze right down, then daffodil bulbs will be fine. If you need to give them some cool temps because you live in the desert- the you're going to have to dig them up in the fall - give them "winter" in the frig crisper and replant in the spring.
