Dirt Poor

I'm not actually dirt poor, but I do have some sufferin' soil. The flower beds have been worked so that parts are flourishing, parts are still loaded with clay. I am well-aware of the locations of each. What is the best remedy for thick clay-like soil, and will I need a special tool?

Thanks for this resource, it's wonderful! I'm in a wheelchair, so my husband has to do the dirty work; when he knows you're involved, things get done. And we always do them together and have fun.

Doug says to check out the section on clay soil right here. That should give you a good start.

Organic matter is the key to great soil - and you simply can't put too much of it on in your Ohio area.

No special tool. Use a mulch or dig it in. The mulch deteriorates and helps out- digging it in makes it a faster process.
