Did I plant my Iris to deep?

I planted my Iris bulbs in 2009 fall season. I only see the leaf coming up this year, no blooms. I read somewhere not to plant them no more then a inch deep. If you do you will not see them bloom. If this is true, can I dig them up and replant them or do I need to start over.

Doug says if we're talking iris *bulbs* and not iris corms (the big flowering garden iris) - then you're fine. The leaves should come up before the flowers. And 1-inch deep is fine for iris bulbs. A lack of flowering on these (in years after planting) can be attributed to too much water on the bulb. They want very dry summer conditions.

iris bulbs versus iris corms
by: Doug

It sounds as if you're asking about iris corms (the taller iris) rather than bulbs. And yes, those should be regularly dug and divided. And then replanted quite shallowly can go here to see a variety of articles on iris (non-bulb kinds) Scroll down to see the iris articles
