delay already sprouting bulbs.

I recieved a lovely gift of a bulb garden. The bulbs are sprouting. I will be gone for a month, is there any way to delay further growth? or should I give them to a neighbor to watch them bloom?

Doug says if they're in a pot, you can put them in a refrigerator on low temperature (don't freeze them) for a few days to hold them but if you're away longer, give them to a friend. If in the garden, there's no way to hold them back short of dumping snow on top of them.
