Dahlias and slugs

I love Dahlias, but if I put them into a pot or in the ground, the slugs do such a number on them.....it isn't worth it....I'm in zone 5. The slugs eat mainly the blooms before they open...I'm assuming they are slugs eating them...I've seen the silver trail....could it be something else eating them? Thank you for any advice, I may try them again this year, I do love them!

Doug says there is an organic product called Sluggo - it's iron phosphate - and the slugs love it - and it's quite fatal to them. No fuss, no muss and you get to garden without them. Sprinkle it around the base of the pot/on the soil of the pot or around the base of the plant in the ground (anywhere a slug is likely to be) and you should see the problem slow down and disappear. Follow label directions for best results.
