Q&A  Getting Agapanthus to Bloom

I have a question about growing agapanthus.  How important is it to have the rhizomes just below the surface of the soil, and would this be a cause for it to not flower if planted too deeply?

Also, is it true that "potbound" likely means more flower production with them?

Thank you.

it could be a factor but just as likely is the size of the tuber.  Often times you'll find tubers are small and don't flower the first year.

Flower production is also determined by how you fed the bulb this summer.  If you weren't using a weekly feeding program, then you may not see flowers the first year.

Potbound doesn't necessarily mean more flowers.  It simply means a more mature bulb.   So you can dig it up and move it easily once it is mature.
