April snow

These tulips were beaten to the ground by a late snow storm, but they popped up the next day.

Orange Tulip

I planted a number of Tulips last fall that I was told would be pink in colour. This is certainly not pink however I do enjoy the orange especially since I would never have purchased this colour and now really like it.

Fritillaria Crown Imperial

Fritillaria Crown Imperial

I particularly enjoy this spring bulb. It is situated in the centre of my rose garden. The strong skunk order it produces seems to keep not only 4 legged creatures away but also 2 legged little ones tend to avoid picking it.

A Smidge of a Midge

A Smidge of a Midge

I was photographing the progress of Spring, when I came upon this Salome daffodil with a passenger. It turns out that this is a Chironomidae (midge). Harmless little fellow, of which I'm glad, but obviously a fellow needing a rest. :-)

Blood Root

Blood Root

This is my first flower that appears after the snow melts. After it flowers this plant becomes a feature plant within my Hosta bed.

Doug says that Bloodroot isn't a bulb - but because the double form is his favorite spring ephemeral flower (the blooms only last a few days) and because he left his at his old garden, he's letting this picture be published. :-)

Cheerful Beauties

Cheerful Beauties

The first colour in our garden appearing after the long winter were these little crocus. It looks like my 'little helpers" were busy last year (again) as I don't remember
planting them in this spot.

Pleasing colors

Pleasing colors

This color combination happened by accident. I bought a grab bag of tulips and somehow managed to plant most of the pink and white ones together.

Yellow daffodils are wonderful for complimenting blue and pink hyacinths and every kind of tulip, but yellow daffodils tickle me pink!

These hyacinths had a very hard April. Somehow they still look pretty surrounded by all the white snow.
